Two Allergies, One Mission
We are KuLa Venture—the adventure of Kumiko and Larry.
It started with a problem: Larry is allergic to wheat, and Kumiko is allergic to dairy. After moving to Kumamoto in 2023, we realized that finding a truly indulgent, safe cookie in Japan was nearly impossible. We didn’t just want a "health snack"—we wanted the New York cookie Larry grew up with.
Crafting the "Dream"
How do you bake a world-class cookie without wheat, eggs, or butter?
Larry is a scientist and Silicon Valley engineer by trade. He approached the kitchen like a laboratory, prototyping over 200 formulas. He replaced wheat with a custom blend of Kyushu rice flours and starches, and swapped butter for luxurious organic coconut oil.
The Secret Sauce: We use traditional Japanese ingredients—Sake lees, true mirin, and shio koji—to create a depth of flavor that most vegan treats lack. Kumiko, our Chief Taster, ensures every batch meets the high standards of someone who lived half her life in the food capital of California.
